Tantan
Tantan
B. 1977 Yumi Taniguchi Tokyo, Japan
Tantan expresses a liberating honesty through line and movement. Her background in philosophy creates a deep urge to create and communicate, allowing instinct to guide what the artist describes as an unfiltered “oozing out” of emotion. Raw experience is transferred across various media, while her identity remains rooted in non-representational expression. This ability to work both freely and intentionally creates an intense emotional exchange without dissolving into incomprehensible obscurity. In this way, Tantan bridges herself, the art, and the viewer, creating a dialogue.
At the core of Tantan’s practice lies the line itself, which becomes a record of movement formed as she disengages from conscious control and responds in real time. Through repetition, a sense of oneness gradually emerges, distinguishing her process as one in which recognition arises through the act of making, rather than intention merely producing a predetermined result.
